Škoda Auto is once again heading to the prestigious Milan Design Week. Within
the setting of a unique installation, the new Epiq electric car will be unveiled in
an unexpected form. For Milan Design Week , the Škoda brand has teamed
up with Spanish artist Ricardo Orts, founder of Ulises Studio. The exhibition is
located at the State Archives in Palazzo del Senato, Via Senato . Visitors need
not worry about missing it – its exterior will already draw attention with large-scale
installations inspired by modelling clay, the central motif of the global campaign for
the Epiq model. The palace courtyard will welcome visitors with colourful elements
that blend physical and digital environments. Upon entering the exhibition, there will
be no doubt as to why its main slogan is the exclamation: Ooooh, that’s EpiQ!
Both adults and younger visitors will nd plenty to enjoy inside. Visitors can
experience Škoda Auto’s striking installation at Milan Design Week from  to
 April. Whether stopping by briey for a Curiosity Fuel Coee or spending
an entire day enjoying the programme, there is something for everyone. Further
essential information and registration for individual activities can be found at

Škoda DuoBell:
A bicycle bell
that outsmarts
even smart
headphones
The story behind the
camouage for the Škoda Peaq
Pedestrians wearing headphones
are exposed to an increased risk
of accidents. In an eort to reduce
collisions with cyclists, Škoda Auto,
in collaboration with scientists,
introduces an innovative bicycle
bell whose sound can penetrate
even active noise cancellation
systems (ANC). The DuoBell
has been developed by the car
manufacturer in cooperation with
scientists from the University of
Salford. Through acoustic testing,
the research team identied
a narrow frequency band – a “safety
gap” – capable of penetrating
ANC headphone lters. This range
lies between  and  Hz.
The camouage has a clear purpose: to conceal
the vehicle’s proportions and shapes, allowing it
to be driven in public ahead of its ocial unveiling,
while keeping the details of its design a secret.
The camouage of the large all-electric SUV Škoda
Peaq draws inspiration from the model’s very name,
employing a theme of mountain peaks combined
with the colour palette of a sunset. “Using an
abstract depiction of valleys and peaks was an
immediate source of inspiration for me,” says
designer Petr Petzet. While the pattern itself was
relatively clear from the outset, the colour scheme
underwent several iterations. “The dominant
colour is Škoda Emerald Green, complemented by
subtle sunset tones,” Petzet explains. The sunset
motif along the side of the vehicle also serves
an important function within the camouage:
contrasting colour elements across the bodywork
aid in masking, while thematically connecting
the design along the entire length of the car.
The bell therefore emits sound at this frequency. It also features an
additional resonator (hence the name DuoBell), tuned to a higher
frequency, and, thanks to a specially designed hammer mechanism,
produces rapid and irregular strikes. This generates sound waves
that ANC algorithms are unable to process quickly enough to
suppress.
Measurements conducted during testing also demonstrated that
pedestrians wearing active noise-cancelling headphones had up
to  metres of additional reaction distance when DuoBell was
activated, representing
a crucial safety margin. The bell
prototypes were also created
as a tribute to Škoda’s current
Modern Solid design language.
The colours, surface nishes
and materials draw inspiration
from solutions used in Škoda
vehicles.
